Reach Out and Read, KCDMA Book Drive

Please join our Book Drive! The KCDMA Community Service Committee is partnering with Reach Out and Read KC:

This organization offers a pediatric early literacy program that serves Kansas City's most vulnerable children. The program partners with pediatric doctors to make free books available for children in lower-income communities at every well-child visit from birth to five years old.

Reach Out and Read clinic doctors and nurses are trained to advise parents about the importance of reading aloud. By building on the unique relationship between parents and medical providers, Reach Out and Read helps families and communities encourage early literacy skills so children enter school prepared for success. Bring one or more of the requested titles (below) to our August 9th luncheon.

The Community Service Committee will make sure your donations (books or checks) go to the ROARKC distribution center in the Pediatric Department at KU Medical Center. Checks can be made payable to: Reach Out and Read KC. Reach Out and Read Kansas City's Requested Book Authors & Titles Used Books should be gently used (covers and pages intact, clean and readable). Hard cover picture books with brightly colored pictures and interesting stories are ideal. Board books are greatly appreciated, and Spanish and bilingual books are in great demand.

Books for children from birth to five years old are most needed. Books for older children are also appreciated. Books about religion and sensitive issues like divorce, abuse or death are not accepted.
