On May 11, Ghadeer Garcia, the Executive Director of The BrandLab in Kansas City, will discuss what happens when Diversity, Equity and Inclusion training ends and your work begins. As Kansas City marketers, we have the opportunity to help build a pipeline of talented, diverse marketers through purposeful action.
Operating under the principle that you can’t ask for a job if you don’t know it exists, The BrandLab’s mission is to change the face and voice of the marketing industry through education, mentorships and internships.
In a thought-provoking session, Ghadeer will examine how marketers like you can support and nurture incoming talent. She will walk us through how to create a purposeful and meaningful plan to make a difference by discussing:
- The power of “ME.” How each of us as marketing and advertising professionals can make an impact.
- How you engage in this work with intention, hope, energy and sustainability.
- Simple reflection exercises to develop the commitments you can make while upholding your core values.
Ghadeer Garcia: Prior to nonprofit leadership, Ghadeer worked in the private corporate sector for 10 years in administrative and organizational development roles. Currently, she serves as the Executive Director for the Kansas City branch of The BrandLab, a nonprofit established in Minneapolis with the mission of changing the face and voice of the marketing and advertising industry. The BrandLab came to Kansas City in late 2017, championed by the C-suite leaders of the local marketing and ad sectors. Ghadeer led the way and was selected to head the first expansion market of TBL, bringing this incredibly important work to KC since beginning her role in 2018. In her daily professional life, Ghadeer works with area high school juniors and seniors, college students, ad agencies and corporate marketing departments across the metro area, focusing on introducing young talent to careers in the industry while working to remove barriers to those careers and interrupting bias within the creative sectors. Her work lives at the intersections of education, workforce development, diversity and inclusion, equity and belonging.
In addition to her professional life, Ghadeer believes in deliberate, purposeful action to create necessary change — which is why she is so passionate about her work and civic engagement. Not only is she a serious networker, Ghadeer is a top-notch, fun-loving themed party thrower. More than anything in this life, she loves being mother to her hilarious, brilliant, precocious 15 year-old Joshua and 13 year-old Gabriella.
